President Biden: the End of the European Travel Ban Is Near

News 2021-07-20 ParkingNearAirports.io
As you know, since the 13 of March 2020, Donald Trump's administration has decided to enact the European Travel Ban. As a result, the former president of the United States blocked entry to the country for non-nationals who have been in the U.K., Ireland, 26 Schengen Area countries, China, Iran, and/or Brazil in the last 14 days. Speaking about 26 Schengen Area countries, they include Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

However, people disagreed with such a decision. Day after day, anger had been growing in Europe. Even when Europe began allowing American tourists to come in June, nothing special changed.

Joe Biden's administration, in turn, fought back with pressure during several months to reopen borders to European.

Bloomberg reported that Celia Belin - a visiting fellow in the Center on the United States and Europe at the Brookings Institution - talked about the European Travel Ban, which she's been demanding to cancel for months. She said the following:

"In a democracy such as this one and with the alliance of democracies that Biden is hoping for, this arbitrary randomness of the travel ban and the discriminatory nature of it, I feel that's a stain."

Besides this, since the 29 of January, the United States has required all travelers, including U.S. citizens, to come from abroad to have the negative coronavirus test. This test should have been taken no more than three days before the scheduled departure.

What about today's news? Has anything changed? We can give you a confident answer - yes.

On the 15 of July, Joe Biden had a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He said that this European Travel Ban could be canceled soon, or at least a date when the ban will be lifted. Here are his words:

"I'll be able to answer that question too, within the next several days, what is likely to happen," Mr. Biden said. "I'm waiting to hear from our folks in our COVID team as to when that should be done."
