In late September, something terrible happened at the John F. Kennedy Airport (fortunately, the happy ending is provided in this story). Traveling through New York's JFK Airport, one of the passengers has almost given up hope of ever reuniting with his favorite pet cat, Ettore. Why, you may ask? Unfortunately, the animal had gotten out from its travel crate before being loaded on a flight. Ettore then disappeared after fleeing from the airport workers.

According to him, the pet's owner Salvatore Fazio traveled to Italy when Ettory got loose and disappeared. Even though someone could see the cat near the airport, the officials haven't sighted him for two weeks.
Debacker said he became embroiled in the situation after Fazio posted about Ettore on Facebook. In his opinion, unfortunately, searching the runway area of an airport can be challenging. However, Debacker added that Toni Ann, a friend of Fazio's, helped coordinate the searches and make fliers.
Eventually, an airport employee found the cat's collar near the airport runway area. Debacker said that after that, he managed to convince the airport and the Port Authority to allow him to set up a motion-detecting camera, which captured footage of Ettore about 10 hours later.
Debacker returned to that area and set up a humane trap, and Ettore was caught safely. The cat had spent 18 days living on the airport runway. Meanwhile, Ettore had lost three pounds (dropping from 17 pounds to 14) and suffered bruises on his nose. Debacker said he thinks the cat probably just hunkered down near a bush and stayed close to the water source.
It's great that Ettore was found precisely where and when he was, as Debaker doesn't think the house cat felt well in the wild. However, Ettore is well now, and the rescue is coordinating efforts with Fazio (who travels to Italy) to bring the cat home.
