On Thursday, October 14th, Ed Bastian, a Chief Executive Officer of one of the major airline companies in the United States - Delta Air Lines, reported that they refused to continue imposing sanctions against unvaccinated people.
He emphasized he doesn't think it was a mistake to force all employees to be vaccinated, stressing that this tactic has worked and about 90% of the company's employees have been vaccinated. However, according to Bastian, the company will be able to complete the vaccinations without resorting to harsh measures.
"By the time we're done, our company will be pretty close to being fully vaccinated without going through the harsh measures of compulsory vaccination," he said. "We're showing we can cooperate with people, trust people to make the right decisions, respect their decisions and not make them lose their jobs."
The Delta Air Lines CEO expressed confidence that the percentage of vaccinated employees can be brought up to 95% and promised to take measures to adapt for unvaccinated employees.
Previously, Ed Bastian sent out a letter to all of his subordinates warning of sanctions for those who refused to be vaccinated. In particular, unvaccinated employees were required to undergo weekly Covid-19 testing and be present at work only in a mask.
