37 routes, including two to East Coast locations from San Francisco International Airport, are being cut by JetBlue Airways from its national network.
JetBlue (Nasdaq: JBLU) will no longer offer nonstop service from San Francisco to Newark, New Jersey. United Airlines (Nasdaq: UAL), which offers multiple daily nonstop flights between its major hubs in San Francisco and Newark, will now be a fierce competitor. Between SFO and Newark, Alaska Airlines provides nonstop service as well.
According to a Monday analysis of JetBlue's flight schedule, nonstop flights between SFO and Newark are still offered by the airline through September 6. JetBlue still runs many nonstop flights from SFO to JFK Airport in New York, going up against United, Alaska, Delta, and American Airlines on that route.
Additionally this month, JetBlue announced that it would prolong the suspension of nonstop service from SFO to Hartford, Connecticut.
On whether or not the SFO services would resume, JetBlue remained silent on the subject on Monday. The SFO-to-Newark route is a fresh addition to the list of route cuts, according to The Points Guy travel site, even if several of the national routes are extensions of service that have been suspended.

The New York carrier is ready to help to reduce travelers' transportation-related problems.
"We're considering a schedule modification for this fall and into 2023 that would prolong some of the market suspensions we put in place earlier this year to ensure continuous operational reliability," JetBlue said in a statement. "The capacity pulldowns we implemented made this summer more resilient, so we think it's wise to plan similarly for next year."
JetBlue said that its national route cuts are primarily taking place in markets and airports that are difficult from an operational or air traffic control perspective. "We're getting ahead of it now to ease pressure on our customer support and to offer more time for rebooking our customers," JetBlue added.
In order to alleviate traffic problems at Newark Airport, United said in June that it will reduce up to 50 daily flights there through the end of the summer.
JetBlue, which last month agreed to pay $3.8 billion to acquire Spirit Airlines, stated that it still intends to expand despite the route reductions.
JetBlue noted that 2023 is shaping up to be another year of expansion as they extend their fleet. "As we grow, we want to make sure that everything runs well for both our customers and team members."
