In 2023, Frontier Airlines will add back several flights to its RDU schedule, with a third going to New York's Islip, Buffalo, and Syracuse.
Flights to Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Portland (Maine), Trenton, New Jersey, and New York were finally introduced to the airline's plan for departures from RDU.
The Denver-based carrier didn't respond right away to a request for comment.
Now, American Airlines flies from RDU to Cincinnati, while Delta Air Lines flies from RDU to Detroit.
On the other lines, only Frontier will be operating.
Additionally, nonstop flights have been launched by Southwest Airlines between Las Vegas and Houston's William P. Hobby Airport (where it will compete with existing service from Delta and Frontier). In April, the new Southwest flights are scheduled to go on sale.
Lately, Spirit Airlines announced plans to begin offering nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in March. For that service, it will face off against Avelo, Delta, JetBlue, and Southwest.
In May, Frontier will launch nonstop service from RDU to Dallas, where it will battle against American Airlines. Due to its status as an ultra-low-cost carrier, Frontier can provide tickets at a lower price than the majority of legacy airlines, although add-ons like priority boarding and checked luggage aren't free.
This week, Frontier introduced an all-you-can-fly summer pass that allows users to access "unlimited flights" between May 2nd and September 30th for an initial price of $399.
