Starting in September, the Seattle-based airline will increase the number of first-class and premium-class seats on more than 200 of its aircraft. This retrofit will be applied to the airline's Boeing 737-900ER, 737-800, and 737-9 MAX models.
Here's what the airline stated:
"At Alaska Airlines, we're always looking for new ways to make your travel experience even better. We believe in providing you with choices that cater to your needs, whether you prefer the comfort and perks of Premium and First Class, or you value the affordability and flexibility of our Main Cabin and Saver Fare options."
In total, the airline will add 1.3 million premium seats annually to its mainline fleet.
As part of the upgrade, the first-class seats on Alaska's Boeing 737-800 aircraft will feature a calf rest, a new seat-back device holder, a 6-way headrest with neck support, and USB-C charging capabilities. Passengers seated in both the main cabin and premium class of those aircraft will also enjoy new device holders with built-in cup holders, USB-C charging, and the 6-way headrest with neck support.
The conversions will commence in the fall with the Boeing 737-900ER, followed by the 737-800 in early 2025. Finally, the airline will convert 6 more seats into premium cabin seats on its Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft starting in spring 2025.
Alaska Airlines offers 3 cabin classes: main cabin, premium class, and first class. In addition to complimentary beverages like cocktails, beer, and wine, passengers in premium class can enjoy the perk of early boarding. In first class, travelers can check 2 bags free of charge and pre-order complimentary meals.
Fortunately, the airline is making it easier for customers to experience the benefits of premium class. Throughout this summer, from now until September 2nd, 1 main cabin passenger per day will be selected for a complimentary upgrade to premium class.
Alaska Airlines was one of the most punctual airlines in the United States in June, and has recently introduced a paid subscription service that provides discounts on Wi-Fi and priority access to sales.
