American Airlines is introducing several new flight options for travelers eager to explore European destinations. The carrier will add 5 new routes to Europe from 4 of its hubs next summer.
Starting on March 30th, 2025, American will connect Chicago O'Hare to Madrid using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. On May 23rd, the airline will link Philadelphia to both Edinburgh and Milan, also with 787-8 aircraft. From June 5th, American will launch flights from Charlotte to Athens, and then a month later from Miami to Rome, both on Boeing 777-200s.
All of these new routes will operate daily through the summer of 2025, and tickets are now available for sale as of September 9th.
Here's what Brian Znotins, American's senior vice president of network and schedule planning, said about it:
"We're seeing a lot of success in these core markets."
Except for Edinburgh, the airline already serves the other destinations from its other US hubs.
American had previously served Edinburgh in 2019, but discontinued the route during the pandemic when it retired its fleet of Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft.
The new Madrid flight offers the advantage of connections to numerous flights across Europe through American's partner Iberia. The Spanish airline serves 70 destinations in Europe from Madrid, including popular summer destinations like Ibiza, Menorca, and Porto.
The 5 new transatlantic routes come as American plans to resume flights to Copenhagen, Naples, and Nice from Philadelphia next summer. These seasonal routes were launched this summer.
American Airlines has decided to extend its existing winter flight between Miami and Paris throughout the summer season. In addition, the airline will move up the start of its summer flights between Dallas-Fort Worth and Barcelona, as well as between Philadelphia and Athens, to March 30th, instead of June and May, respectively. Moreover, the summer flights from Philadelphia to Naples will commence a month earlier than originally planned, now starting in May.
