Starting next March, Houstonians will have a new option for traveling to Tokyo. The budget airline Zipair is launching new flights with one-way tickets starting at $333.

Zipair, a subsidiary of Japan Airlines, will be connecting Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Tokyo's Narita Airport (NRT). The flights will run 4 times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, starting from March 4th, 2025. The airport announced this news on Wednesday, October 9th. The flights will take almost 14 hours and will use Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. These planes have 18 lie-flat business-class seats and 272 economy seats.

Compared to other airlines, this under-$400 fare is a great deal for the Houston-Tokyo route. All Nippon Airways (ANA) and United Airlines both offer daily flights, but their basic, no-frills tickets start at $595 one way for next March. The prices can go up quickly from there.

Here's what Shingo Nishida, the President of Zipair Tokyo, said in the announcement:

"We look forward to welcoming new and seasoned travelers to take advantage of our fully customizable travel experience, including complimentary Wi-Fi service."

The promotional $333 fare is available for sale on Zipair's website through November 30th.

While the new Tokyo route won't be ready in time for Christmas and New Year's trips this year, travelers will have a new affordable option to see Tokyo's famous cherry blossoms next spring. Visitors can get a drink at the Park Hyatt Tokyo, which was featured in the movie "Lost in Translation," or check out the city's top luxury shopping scene.

Sports fans and their families can even attend a Japanese baseball game.

"The new route between Houston and Tokyo will strengthen our business ties with Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region," said Houston Mayor John Whitmire in a statement. "It'll also bring more visitors to experience Houston's vibrant culture, world-class healthcare, and diverse industries."

Houston is Zipair's 5th US destination after Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Jose, California. The airline offers travelers onward connections to Bangkok and Singapore via Tokyo.
