Back in late November, the largest hotel chain in the United Kingdom, Premier Inn, released a study that identified the most beautiful winter cities in the world. And at the top of the list was Boston.
In their analysis, Premier Inn showed 100 participants images of 72 cities experiencing winter around the globe. They used eye-tracking technology to measure how long each participant gazed at each destination. "Using eye-tracking software, the average length of time the participants spent looking at the image of each destination ... was recorded," Premier Inn reported in a press release. "The average fixation times were then ranked from high to low to reveal the cities that people spent the longest time looking at. These cities were the most eye-catching and therefore the most beautiful."
Boston's skyline captivated viewers for an average of 2.67 seconds, according to the analysis. Premier Inn noted that the city's famous colonial architecture takes on an extra nostalgic charm when dusted with snow, and the Freedom Trail becomes an even more magical walking route. Boston Common and the Public Garden transform into winter wonderlands, and the Museum of Fine Arts offers warm halls filled with world-class art.
With its iconic skyline, colonial architecture, and dreamy Public Garden, the City on a Hill held participants' attention for an impressive average of 2.67 seconds. Boston also offers plenty of winter activities, such as ice skating on Frog Pond, visiting the Snowsport Winter Village, and even dining in an igloo on the rooftop of The Envoy Hotel.
Other US winter cities also captivated viewers. New York City came in 2nd place, followed by Salt Lake City, Washington DC, and Aspen, Colorado, rounding out the top 5.
