In 2025, Singapore will have the world's strongest passport, giving it the highest access to destinations.

The country allows visa-free entry to 195 places, topping the Henley Passport Index. Last year, it shared this top ranking with 5 other nations.

Japan ranks 2nd with access to 193 destinations, while France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, and South Korea are tied for 3rd with 192.

The United States is 9th, granting Americans visa-free travel to 186 spots. This is down from 7th place last year and a big drop from second place 10 years ago, according to the index.

"Even before a second Trump presidency, American politics had turned increasingly inward and isolationist," said Annie Pforzheimer from the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She noted that measures like "tariffs and deportations" will likely keep the United States declining on the mobility index.

On the other end is Afghanistan, which ranked last with the most restrictive passport, allowing visa-free entry to only 26 places. Next came Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Pakistan.

Dr. Christian H. Kaelin, chairman of Henley & Partners, stated:

"We need to reevaluate citizenship and its birthright system as climate change leads to more natural disasters, displacing communities."

The passport index assesses 199 passports based on how easily they grant visa-free travel, using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

For travelers wanting a second passport, several countries offer citizenship through investment or if an applicant has grandparents or great-grandparents from there.
