In October, they shared their annual report revealing the "safest" countries on Earth. For 2025, Iceland was named the safest place to travel!
To rank the safest countries, the company collected data since 2016, asking American travelers about their "attitudes toward travel safety." Specifically, they ask travelers where they've been in the last 5 years and how safe they felt there. They combine those ratings with other indices, such as the Global Peace Index and Numbeo, along with an average of the GeoSure Global scores for major cities in each country. Every destination ends up with a weighted total for its ranking. For 2025, Iceland was the top choice.
"Over time, many things change, especially with the pandemic, but as you'll see from this year's list, some things remain constant," the team noted in their findings. "Just like a solid house, a place has a strong support system when it comes to safety. The factors that make Switzerland safe for travelers now will likely keep it safe a decade from now."
The report says Iceland climbed from No. 9 in 2024 because it has "one major road" and is "never crowded." It pointed out that "Logic dictates that it's hard to have traffic accidents if you don't have traffic."
However, it added a note to consider while on vacation in Iceland. "Volcanoes. Iceland is a volcanic island, and volcanic islands can have eruptions. But it's tough to find anyone more laid-back about it than the Icelanders."
Other countries that made it into the top list with Iceland include Australia at No. 2, followed by Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, New Zealand, Germany, Norway, Japan, and Denmark, completing the top 10. Check out the full list of the safest countries, per the survey, at bhtp.com.
