With the warm season rapidly approaching, now presents the ideal moment to finalize your summer travel arrangements. And if your inclinations mirror those of many others, your upcoming getaway is probably centered around experiencing some truly delicious meals. Fortunately, Airbnb has identified precisely where you should go to achieve just that.
In late April, the prominent home rental platform released its comprehensive 2025 summer travel trends report. The company's findings indicate a growing preference among people for more localized experiences than ever before, which, crucially, often involves seeking out authentic local flavors.
"Globally, one in five guests stated that they chose Airbnb over other types of accommodation specifically because they desired a local travel experience," Airbnb articulated. "This summer, travelers are actively sidestepping typical summer crowds and opting for more local, yet still affordable, foodie destinations instead of conventional culinary capitals."
Airbnb further supported its findings by referencing another survey conducted by Panterra, which revealed that nearly half, specifically 47%, of those travelers "prioritize authentic local cuisine as their top food and beverage experience."
Airbnb went a step further by spotlighting its premier trending foodie destinations. This list includes Alassio, Italy, which, as the company notes, "offers a similar coastal retreat to Positano, with a vibrant culinary scene centered around its fresh local seafood, wild flowers and herbs, and famous Riviera Ligure DOP extra-virgin olive oil."

The company also named Rotterdam, Netherlands, on its esteemed list, attributing its inclusion to that city's "innovative international food scene." In addition, there's Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain, a charming beach town nestled in Costa de la Luz, where highly-rated restaurants specialize in preparing some of the finest seafood found anywhere in the world.
Airbnb also gave a special mention to Belo Horizonte in Brazil, which is "famous for its flavorful and traditional Minas Gerais dishes," along with Shillong, India, "celebrated for its unique local delicacies and traditional Khasi cuisine."
It designated Marloth Park, South Africa, located adjacent to Kruger National Park, as yet another essential food and drink destination, well-known for its grape cultivation. Also recognized were Arakawa City, Japan, for its renowned ramen and gyoza; Rawai, Thailand, for its abundant fresh seafood and local ingredients; and Santa Teresita, Argentina, for its diverse global bites showing "influences from Italian, Spanish, and other European cultures."
However, you won't necessarily need to pull out your passport for a delightful food-focused getaway. Airbnb also highlighted Oneonta, New York, as a premier food-centric spot within the United States, describing it as a "hidden gem escape in the Catskills that's home to a variety of breweries alongside a diverse array of dining options, with a focus on farm-to-table ingredients."
