Traveling as a family can be difficult, as parents often rush to get their toddlers through airport security. However, a new campaign aims to make this process easier! To make your trip even smoother, consider options like a long-term garage or using an airport parking promotion you can find through services like ParkingNearAirports.io, which also offers airport parking monthly deals.
On Friday, July 18, the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the launch of its "Families on the Fly" campaign, designed to reduce the stress of traveling with family.
The initiative includes creating a dedicated family lane for TSA security, which is intended to reduce wait times and streamline the process.
"There will be expanded areas that will give them the benefit of recognizing that they have children with them and will help make sure that we have the ability to take care of them and their families as they go through this expedited process with their kiddos," Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said at a press conference.
The campaign will also offer a discount for families interested in TSA PreCheck, reducing the cost from $100 to $85 per person. Under current regulations, children under 12 can use the TSA PreCheck line if they are with an enrolled adult. Children between 13 and 17 must be on the same flight reservation as their enrolled parents or guardians.
The "Families on the Fly" campaign is currently being implemented at Orlando International (MCO) and Charlotte-Douglas International (CLT) airports, with planned expansions to John Wayne Orange County Airport (SNA) and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu.

In the coming months, the initiative will also be added to Charleston International Airport (CHS), Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Rhode Island, Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Puerto Rico, and Tampa International Airport (TPA).
The news about the new TSA campaign comes a few days after Noem revealed at a conference hosted by The Hill that she's "questioning everything TSA does" and mentioned possible changes to the amount of liquids travelers can bring in their carry-on baggage.
"The liquids, I'm questioning. So that may be the next big announcement is what size your liquids need to be," Noem said. "We have put in place in TSA a multilayered screening process that allows us to change some of how we do security and screening so it's still as safe."
She didn't provide any specific details about what these changes might be or how soon travelers could expect to see them.
Under the Transportation Security Administration's current guidelines, travelers can carry liquids in travel-sized containers of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item in their carry-on bag. These containers must fit into a single one-quart resealable plastic bag. Larger containers must be placed in checked baggage, though there are exceptions for medications and baby formula.
