A leading carrier is commemorating its 100th year by launching 100 fresh routes out of the Windy City.
This spring,
"Our goal is to revitalize our Chicago operations to better serve our passengers, and these 2026 initiatives reflect that mission while capping off a year of significant expansion at ORD," stated Steve Johnson, American's vice chair and chief strategy officer. He noted that as the airline celebrates 100 years of service at ORD, they are focused on boosting reliability and premium travel choices. Those utilizing Chicago Airport parking with shuttle services will benefit from a more robust and attractive network.
These additional flights will reach 75 different markets, spanning major hubs like Boston, Dallas, and Orlando. Moreover, the carrier intends to double its frequency to high-demand spring break spots, including Las Vegas, Panama City, and Sarasota.
The airline is also boosting service to Savannah, Georgia, a destination celebrated for its historic architecture, culinary excellence, and lush, tree-lined avenues. With ideal spring weather and a variety of local events, it remains a top choice for travelers departing from Chicago.
This massive growth spurt coincides with American's 100th year in the skies. Since its first mail flight from Chicago to St. Louis in 1926, the company has grown into a global giant with a fleet exceeding 1,500 planes. Many passengers using park and ride ORD facilities will be part of this historic expansion.
"It's a privilege for American to join the elite ranks of airlines reaching the 100-year milestone," CEO Robert Isom remarked. He emphasized that the brand's history of innovation ensures it's well-positioned to lead the industry for the next century, supporting both employees and passengers.
In honor of the anniversary, American will debut a Boeing 737 featuring a "centennial pattern" of silver infinity rings and will apply a commemorative 100-year logo to every aircraft in its fleet.
