While traveling by RV was once seen as a hobby reserved for retirees, it has evolved into a top choice for Americans of all generations. This mode of travel combines the freedom of the open road with the luxury of bypassing hotel bookings and repetitive unpacking, making it a staple for those visiting national parks. Even for those who begin their journey by flying, finding an airport parking reservation is often the first step before picking up a rental and heading into the wilderness.
Data from RVshare, the premier online marketplace for RV rentals, indicates that the landscape of mobile travel is shifting. Their 2026 Travel Trend Report – a study now in its seventh year – analyzed the habits of 1,000 adult leisure travelers to pinpoint exactly how and where people are choosing to roam. Many of these savvy travelers are looking for the best airport parking deals to save money before they even reach their RV.
The current data reveals a strong preference for familiar territory, with Arizona's Grand Canyon National Park holding its position as the top RV destination for another consecutive year.
Beyond returning to favorite landmarks, travelers are now focused on streamlined, intentional itineraries designed to keep budgets under control. The report found that 87% of travelers are actively seeking ways to reduce costs, while 43% are specifically booking trips during the off-season to save money. Just as travelers look for airport parking coupons to shave costs off their commute, RVers are finding creative ways to make their road trips more affordable.
While the Grand Canyon remains the undisputed leader in popularity, many travelers are beginning to bypass other high-traffic locations. Famous spots like Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Zion – once essential bucket-list items – are seeing a slight decline in interest as experienced RVers attempt to dodge the heavy congestion and long wait times associated with these iconic parks.
Consequently, there's a growing fascination with more secluded, off-the-beaten-path destinations. Parks, such as Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Crater Lake, are seeing a surge in interest, alongside Glacier, Death Valley, and Canyonlands. These locations offer breathtaking scenery and outdoor thrills without the logistical headaches and crowds found in the most famous parks.
