Travelers can secure excellent airfare savings this summer if they know where to search.

Even with rising ticket prices, high jet fuel costs, and fewer budget carriers, travel experts at Dollar Flight Club note that great summer deals are still available. The savings opportunities have simply shifted to different regions.

Jesse Neugarten, Founder and CEO of Dollar Flight Club, explained that the current travel market is highly volatile due to a major airline shutdown and surging fuel costs. However, he emphasized that excellent prices still exist for those who know where to look.

Short-haul flights to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America represent the best value this summer because prices there remain stable. These shorter flights consume less fuel and benefit from strong competition among budget airlines.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, ranks as the most economical beach getaway this summer, with average ticket prices falling between $228 and $355. Flying to San Juan, Puerto Rico, is another highly affordable choice, with flights averaging between $196 and $300.

Other wallet-friendly international spots include San José, Costa Rica, with average rates starting around $276, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, starting near $279. For those staying closer to home, the Midwest, Gulf Coast, and Southeast offer the best regional savings.

Neugarten advised budget-conscious flyers to head east rather than west. While West Coast hubs feature occasional deals, their baseline fares remain higher than average.

To find these trends, Dollar Flight Club evaluated summer flight data collected in April across more than 65 domestic airports.

Regardless of your final destination, a recent Expedia study shows that booking your tickets on a Friday and departing on a Tuesday can maximize your overall savings.

Dollar Flight Club compiled the top 10 cheapest international destinations alongside their average summer round-trip airfare ranges. To keep your total trip expenses down, remember to factor in standard airport parking charges per day before you head to the terminal.

  1. Leon/Guanajuato, Mexico: $185 to $288
  2. San Juan, Puerto Rico: $196 to $300
  3. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: $228 to $355
