In an effort to cut down on delays, United Airlines (Nasdaq: UAL) has already cut back on its fall flight schedule.
According to data from aviation business Cirium Inc., the Chicago-based airline reduced 707 total flights into and out of Denver International Airport in September, totaling 160,000 seats. The path from DIA to San Francisco International Airport was one of the steepest cuts.
According to research by the Denver Business Journal, United is Denver's leading airline in terms of passengers, flights, and available seats. The United hub with the quickest expansion is DIA as well.
But United flight reductions aren't just affecting DIA. For the summer, the airline reduced significantly U.S. flights, including a 12 percent reduction in its domestic flight schedule from Newark International Airport.
According to a statement from United Chief Executive Officer Scott Kirby, "industrywide operational issues that limit the system's capacity, record fuel prices, and the growing likelihood of a worldwide recession are each genuine challenges." These fundamental difficulties have already increased expenses and gasoline prices while also increasing revenue.
Due to labor challenges like pilot and air traffic control shortages as well as persistent Covid-19 worries, a number of U.S. airlines are reducing their itineraries for the rest of this year.
Between November 2022 and February 2023, Denver-based Frontier Airlines (Nasdaq: ULCC) would eliminate around 4,000 flights and 800,000 seats from its schedule.
Recently, American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL) reduced its September and October flying schedule by a combined 15,000 flights.
While Delta Airlines Inc. (NYSE:DAL) reduced hundreds of summer flights to help improve operational reliability, Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) cut 6.9% of its scheduled June flights as part of ongoing network balancing efforts.
