Investment by American Airlines Group Inc. in Universal Hydrogen Co. is the most recent in a string of contracts by the Fort Worth-based airline to lower greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.
Universal Hydrogen, based in Hawthorne, California, creates capsules that can be loaded straight aboard aircraft as cargo and safely store hydrogen while it's in transit. The two-year-old company is also developing a kit that would enable existing regional turboprop aircraft to be retrofitted with hydrogen power and fly.
As an investor in Universal Hydrogen, American (Nasdaq: AAL) joins Airbus Ventures, GE Aviation, and Toyota Ventures, as well as several significant hydrogen manufacturers and aircraft lessors. American Airlines investment's terms weren't made public. In the previous year, Universal Hydrogen raised more than $85 million through series A and B funding rounds.
By contributing, American becomes the first US airline to directly lead to the growth of both logistics for future hydrogen distribution and hydrogen-electric propulsion technology. In August, American Airlines revealed that it would invest at least $5 million in ZeroAvia, a producer of hydrogen-electric jet engines. The carrier has just signed a $2.75 billion contract with Gevo Inc. of Englewood, Colorado to purchase 500 million gallons of jet fuel made from corn.
The United States has established targets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. By 2035, the air carrier wants to cut its emissions by 45% from a baseline of 2019 for every unit of passengers and cargo that the airline transports. Additionally, American pledged to cut its emissions from the generation of the electricity the airline buys by 40%.

Derek Kerr, the chief financial officer, reported in a statement the following:
"As the biggest airline in the world, American must take the lead in ensuring that aviation is sustainable. Our investment in Universal Hydrogen is a statement of support for green hydrogen as a crucial component of our industry's sustainable future."
With plans to extend its services to larger, single-aisle aircraft, Universal Hydrogen expects beginning hydrogen supplies for regional aircraft in 2025. Initially, these services will be used for auxiliary power in the late 2020s and subsequently as a primary fuel by the mid-2030s.
Here's what Paul Eremenko, Universal Hydrogen CEO, highlighted as well:
"This decision by American Airlines is a powerful signal that customers demand a truly zero-emissions solution for passenger aircraft and are prepared to support concrete, practical initiatives to get there rapidly."

Besides the up-to-date news about a major air carrier in the country, we would also like to give you one helpful tip – such information will be handy for those who prefer traveling by air and getting to the airport by their own car.
There is no question that a safe parking space must be arranged for your vehicle during a trip. However, in most cases, people aren't ready to spend a lot of money on this. It is a common problem among travelers, as they know that on-site parking (it may seem that it is the best option for this case) is pretty costly. So what can we do then?
We are glad to inform you that our booking platform, ParkingNearAirports.io, offers travelers online reservations for parking just outside airports that are convenient and affordable. Our experienced team is dedicated to providing travelers parking options at over 100 airports in the US and Canada. In addition, the app allows customers to search and compare parking rates at up to 70 percent savings compared to the cost of on-site parking at all major airports.
Being nearby doesn't always mean convenience when it comes to airport parking. Being in terminal parking is not convenient at all. Travelers have to find a spot in a crowded lot, carry their luggage throughout the parking lot, and pay high fees without great service. The off-airport parking provides excellent service with their award-winning customer service representatives available 24/7. In addition, the app looks for lots that offer baggage assistance and 24-hour security for peace of mind.
With our platform, it only takes a few clicks in the app to reserve a parking spot. Guests receive a booking confirmation and a guaranteed parking space upon arrival at the off-airport parking. In addition, the app helps customers locate the most convenient lots to the airport. Cancellations are easy if plans change with hassle-free, refundable cancellations.

Off-airport parking lots often provide free shuttle going back and forth between the parking lot and the airport, removing any worry of traveling to and from the airport or getting stuck in traffic on the way to the airport during peak hours. Arrive on time for flights and receive significant savings with airport parking.
Besides this, we also offer services for top cruise ports in Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, and Texas.
Let's take a good example. Imagine that you live in Newark, New Jersey. If you're planning a trip to Dallas, Texas, you can choose cheap Newark Airport off-site parking. If you're coming from any other state or city, the situation is the same. So it depends just on where you are flying from.
Also, please don't forget about the airport coupons. Such a coupon can easily help you save money at the beginning of your trip, making the price for parking almost two times less. So if we talk about the Newark Airport, you can use a special EWR long-term parking coupon.
You can find the best offers, EWR long-term parking deals, and other information connected with parking near US and Canadian airports on our official website.
