United Airlines is aiming to boost its summer service from the United States to Europe again next year after seeing full planes over the Atlantic this summer.
In addition to starting a new summer service from Newark to Malaga, Spain, United announced on Wednesday that it will restore seasonal flights from Newark, New Jersey, to Stockholm, which it had discontinued in 2019. After experiencing mixed results, the airline will abandon Bergen, Norway, one of the nine routes it established this summer.
Overall, the airline anticipates an up to 30% increase in summer 2019 passenger capacity across the Atlantic compared to pre-pandemic 2019. This increase takes into account United's recently stated intention to restore flights to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, a route it stopped serving in 2016.
United and other airlines were obliged to cancel some flights this year due to restrictions set by London and Amsterdam airports, which are experiencing personnel issues. After speaking with airport officials, Patrick Quayle, the airline's senior vice president of network planning, stated that United is sure it can carry out the anticipated 2023 European schedule.
