The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) anticipates screening over 18 million travelers and crew members during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend, which is even more than the previous summer.

The busiest day at the airport is expected to be Friday, May 24th, with nearly 3 million passengers projected to pass through TSA security checkpoints, according to the agency. From May 23rd to May 29th, the TSA forecasts a 6.4% increase in the number of travelers compared to the same period last summer.

Here's what David Pekoske, TSA Administrator, said in a statement:

"In close coordination with our airport, airline, and travel partners, we're fully prepared to handle this summer's higher travel volumes. We're also continuing to deploy state-of-the-art checkpoint technology that enhances security effectiveness, efficiency, and the passenger experience. In addition, our retention and recruitment numbers are the highest they've ever been."

To accommodate the larger crowds, the TSA advises travelers flying for Memorial Day to arrive at the airport well ahead of their flight. Most airlines recommend arriving 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international flight.

The smoothness of your travels can vary depending on the airport you're departing from. According to data from the booking app Hopper, the busiest airports during this period will be Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL), Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW), and Denver International (DEN), while the least busy will be Harry Reid International (LAS) in Las Vegas, Orlando International (MCO), and Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA).

To avoid headaches over the Memorial Day weekend, Hopper advises travelers to consider taking the first flight of the day, as it's typically less disrupted, and to be aware of your rebooking options in case of delays or last-minute cancellations. It's also a good idea to build in a buffer day, just in case things don't go as planned.

For those still looking for a last-minute deal, Hayley Berg, Hopper's Lead Economist, suggests booking as soon as possible, as prices are expected to rise by more than $40 in the 2 weeks leading up to Memorial Day. The good news is that airfare is currently averaging around $260 per ticket, which is actually 9.5% lower than last year.

Along with the latest news, we would like to share an additional valuable suggestion. This advice will prove beneficial for individuals who opt for air travel.

If you get to the airport by car, you always need to find a good parking space for your vehicle to leave for the period of a trip. In most cases, airports have special on-site parking for that purpose. However, such a parking lot is pretty costly most of the time, and people aren't ready to spend a lot of money at the beginning of a trip. So is there any solution?

The best way to solve this problem is to choose off-site parking. Why, you may ask? We will explain.

There are many reasons which can prove the benefit of this parking type. Here are some of them:

  • Affordable Rates. Depending on the duration of your trip, you can choose between short-term and long-term airport parking. Anyway, an off-site airport parking is much cheaper, so you can save your money and spend the most considerable amount on things you really want to see or try while traveling.
  • Fast Service. In contrast with on-site airport parking, which can take quite a long time, off-site parking offers you the convenience of driving directly to the entrance and having a staff member pull your luggage out of your vehicle and load it into the shuttle. Then they will park your car for you. After your baggage is loaded, you can take your seat in the shuttle, which will bring you and your bags to the airport. It's a hassle-free option that is usually faster.
  • Convenience. When people travel, they may be stressed about making it to the airport on time. If you use off-site parking, you will definitely make your travel experience more convenient, as you use the service of a private company. Even though you may be able to park on-site at the airport in a short-term or long-term airport parking lot, consider using an off-site parking lot service.
