Many US airports are often viewed as more practical than enjoyable. However, when Americans were asked to rate their favorite domestic airports, they focused on aspects that made their travels more convenient, such as short security wait times, plentiful parking options, and easy-to-navigate terminals.

Below, you'll find details on the voting process, what travelers loved, the winner, and a full list of the top 10 favorite airports among Americans. Let's get to the point!

The ins and outs of voting

Every year, travelers are asked to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, SPAs, airlines, and more through a survey. In 2023, nearly 165,000 travelers completed the survey, an increase of nearly 25 percent over pre-pandemic voting levels. A total of more than 685,000 votes were cast across over 8,500 unique properties.

Airports were specifically rated on the criteria of access, check-in/security, restaurants/bars, shopping, and design. For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.

Most of the airports on the list are regional ones that serve as less-crowded alternatives to major airports that are often too small to handle their passenger flow. Two near Boston made the top 10 this year: Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) in Manchester, New Hampshire, at No. 1 and Providence T.F. Green Airport (PVD) in Warwick, Rhode Island, at No. 6. One voter described the latter as "the quick and easy airport to get your leisure travel off to a stress-free start."

While major international airports are also on the list, they're not the only ones. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), both Delta hubs for international flights, made the top 10 this year, coming in at No. 4 and No. 9, respectively. Salt Lake City is only going to improve, too, with the completion of a new phase of renovations this year. Tampa International Airport (TPA) is also in the mix at No. 3 – last year it received attention when WBA Hall of Fame airline Virgin Atlantic debuted a route to London from the airport.

And the winner is... Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire!

One traveler expressed:

"The airport has quickly become my absolute favorite; it's nice and clean, and the process of getting in and out is fast and easy."

MHT serves approximately 1.7 million passengers annually and offers flights on American, Avelo, Southwest, Spirit, and United airlines. Travelers also commend the airport staff.

Another traveler shared a similar sentiment:

"All the employees I've encountered at MHT are knowledgeable and seem to truly enjoy their work. Security is a breeze, and the TSA agents are extremely professional."

Along with our ultimate travel guide, we would like to share an additional valuable suggestion. This advice will prove beneficial for individuals who opt for air travel.

If you get to the airport by car, you always need to find a good parking space for your vehicle to leave for the period of a trip. In most cases, airports have special on-site parking for that purpose. However, such a parking lot is pretty costly most of the time, and people aren't ready to spend a lot of money at the beginning of a trip. So is there any solution?

The best way to solve this problem is to choose off-site parking. Why, you may ask? We will explain.

There are many reasons which can prove the benefit of this parking type. Here are some of them:

  • Affordable Rates. Depending on the duration of your trip, you can choose between short-term and long-term airport parking. Anyway, an off-site airport parking is much cheaper, so you can save your money and spend the most considerable amount on things you really want to see or try while traveling.
  • Fast Service. In contrast with on-site airport parking, which can take quite a long time, off-site parking offers you the convenience of driving directly to the entrance and having a staff member pull your luggage out of your vehicle and load it into the shuttle. Then they will park your car for you. After your baggage is loaded, you can take your seat in the shuttle, which will bring you and your bags to the airport. It's a hassle-free option that is usually faster.
  • Convenience. When people travel, they may be stressed about making it to the airport on time. If you use off-site parking, you will definitely make your travel experience more convenient, as you use the service of a private company. Even though you may be able to park on-site at the airport in a short-term or long-term airport parking lot, consider using an off-site parking lot service.
