A recent study on the most exciting new travel routes indicates that January is witnessing both major and smaller airlines introducing numerous new flight options to warm locations, such as Florida and Mexico.
New flights to Florida: where can you escape the cold?

Beachgoers, celebrate!
This month, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue Airways, and Southwest Airlines are all adding new flights to Florida from colder northern regions.
Alaska Airlines is connecting Orlando, home of Disney World, to Boise and Sacramento. The Boise flights depart the Idaho capital at 9:55 a.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with a flight time of 5 hours and 20 minutes. The Sacramento flights depart the California capital at 9 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with a 5-hour flight time. One-way economy fares for both routes start at $99.
JetBlue is adding non-stop flights to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, and Orlando from its newest destination, Manchester, New Hampshire. The flights to Fort Myers and Orlando take off on January 23rd, and the Fort Lauderdale flights depart the next day. The roughly 3.5-hour flights start at $89 one way for economy tickets in the first few weeks of service.
Southwest is linking Miami to Columbus and Pittsburgh, and West Palm Beach to Providence. The Miami-Columbus and Miami-Pittsburgh routes begin on January 11th and 12th, respectively, with flights operating on various days of the week through April. The new West Palm Beach-Providence route operates on Saturdays only, starting on January 11th. Flights on all 3 routes are scheduled for around 3 hours, with one-way fares from Columbus and Pittsburgh starting at $90, and from Providence at $70.
Mexican vacations made accessible
Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines are expanding their flight options to popular sunny destinations in Mexico. Alaska will be launching new routes from Sacramento and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Puerto Vallarta, as well as a Sacramento to Los Cabos route. The Sacramento-Los Cabos flights will operate daily, except Tuesdays and Wednesdays, starting on January 6th. The Sacramento-Puerto Vallarta flights will be available on Saturdays, beginning on January 11th. The New York to Puerto Vallarta route will fly on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, starting on January 8th. One-way economy fares start at $120 from Sacramento and $168 from New York.
In addition, Delta is introducing a new route from its Detroit hub to the Tulum area on the southern Riviera Maya. This 4-hour flight will operate on Saturdays, starting on January 11th.

Revitalize in the desert's warmth
This month, there are 3 new flight options to the southwest. Alaska Airlines is launching a new non-stop flight from Sacramento to Tucson, the gateway to Saguaro National Park, on January 6th. The daily flights will be around 2 hours long, with economy tickets starting at $89 one way.
Delta Airlines is also starting a new route, with twice-daily flights from John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Southern California to Las Vegas. The 1-hour-20-minute flights will depart at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning January 2nd, with one-way economy fares starting at $135.
Finally, the semi-private airline JSX, which operates out of private terminals, will connect Oakland to Scottsdale, Arizona starting on January 9th. The nearly 2-hour flights will depart the Bay Area at 11 a.m. on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with one-way tickets starting at $339.
Winter activity fans also have good fortune!
If you're more interested in snowy mountain destinations, United Airlines and WestJet are launching 2 new options this month. Starting January 3rd, United will connect its Denver hub to Butte, Montana, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Daily flights will depart Denver at 8:20 p.m. and arrive in Butte 2 hours later. One-way economy fares to Butte start as low as $149.
In addition, Canadian airline WestJet, a partner of Delta, will link Seattle to Kelowna, British Columbia, beginning January 17th. The new 1-hour flight will depart Seattle at 11:30 a.m. and arrive in time for afternoon runs at Big White, British Columbia's second-largest ski resort. One-way economy fares start at $58.
