They've just revealed a new $1.5 billion Terminal D that will be home to Delta Air Lines, featuring at least 6 gates and a brand-new airline lounge.
Delta already offers various flights out of Tampa, including direct routes to Atlanta, Boston, New York (JFK and LGA), and Minneapolis, plus an international flight to Amsterdam. A new direct route to Austin, Texas is also on the way. Travelers can currently use an existing Delta Sky Club in Concourse E, close to gate 68.
"Tampa's new facility will host a top-notch airline, enhancing both our international and domestic routes. We're excited to boost the travel experience for everyone visiting Tampa Bay with Delta's high standards and our own," said Tampa Airport CEO Joe Lopano in a statement.
The new terminal is set to open in 2028 and is being called state-of-the-art, featuring 16 gates. Renderings show Delta planes parked at gates linked to a spacious glass terminal that brings in lots of natural light. The project started in December 2024 when airport officials celebrated the groundbreaking. Besides the new gates, there will also be a shuttle system, an international arrival facility, and spots for shopping and dining.
Florida has seen huge growth over the past decade and was marked as the fastest-growing state in the latest U.S. Census.
With the population surge, officials believe this new terminal will help the airport support 37 million travelers each year.
