The Wall Street Journal reports the following: American Airlines Group Inc. plans to reduce the number of international flights during the summer due to delays in deliveries of new Boeing's 787 Dreamliner airliners.
Next summer, the company won't operate flights to Edinburgh, Shannon, and Hong Kong, as well as will cut flights to Shanghai, Beijing, and Sydney. Besides, the carrier won't resume seasonal flights to Prague and Dubrovnik and will postpone the start of flights to several destinations, such as Seattle to Bangalore.
The WSJ wrote that the company's decision is another example of the difficulties that Boeing's ongoing problems with Dreamliner manufacturing have caused, making it impossible for the company to deliver airliners to carriers for more than a year.
Here's what Boeing's spokesman said about it:
"We deeply regret that our customers are forced to face such consequences while we're working through the process of 787s' resuming deliveries."
Deliveries are expected to resume by April 1, 2022. It's later than projected, but sources said it's the earliest possible date.
Airlines haven't yet approved the exact list of destinations for the summer. In addition, they may consider other constraints, including weakening demand due to the spread of the new Covid-19 variant and continuing travel restrictions.
United Airlines Holdings Inc., another U.S. carrier, is expected to deliver eight 787 airliners in the second half of 2021, the company said in a statement to the regulator in July.
