Here's what the airline stated in a release when announcing the updates:
"These adjustments reflect JetBlue's commitment to refining its network while leveraging its award-winning service."
In the New York area, JetBlue will initiate new service from Long Island's MacArthur Airport (ISP), with a daily flight to Orlando and 4 weekly flights to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and West Palm Beach (VPS).
From Boston Logan Airport (BOS), the airline will increase its flights, adding a second daily route to Phoenix, which will also feature Mint, a premium cabin service with flat-bed seating.
JetBlue will expand its presence in Florida from Manchester, New Hampshire, with new routes to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, and Orlando starting in January 2025. The Orlando route will operate daily, while the Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers routes will run 3 times a week. The airline will also introduce a new seasonal winter service from Portland, Maine (PWM) to Orlando (MCO), operating 3 times a week.
Here's what Marty St. George, President of JetBlue, said in the company's statement:
"We're incredibly proud of our strong roots in Boston and New England, a region that has always embraced our vision for affordable fares and exceptional travel experiences."
With the introduction of new routes, JetBlue will be discontinuing service to 7 different markets, including Burbank, CA (BUR); Charlotte, NC (CLT); Minneapolis, MN (MSP); Palm Springs, CA (PSP); San Antonio, TX (SAT); Tallahassee, FL (TLH) and Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe (PTP).
JetBlue explained that they're constantly evaluating their route network to best serve their customers, restore the airline's profitability, and find ways to improve reliability.
"These decisions are never easy; however, these markets have recently fallen short of our expectations," the airline said in a statement.
Customers affected by the route changes will be able to rebook on an alternative flight or receive a refund if a suitable alternative isn't available.
